What Does Hummingbird Mean For You?

October 29, 2013
With all of the changes being made on Google, it is often difficult to understand what feature does what and how it will affect you as a writer/blogger. One of my contributors, Katie Elizabeth, has done a remarkable job to help everyday internet users understand what Hummingbird is and what it can do for you.

What Does Google’s Hummingbird Mean for you?

As a work-from-home freelance writer, your web presence is one of your biggest attributes. Your blogs, your portfolios, and you website is what makes you business. For their 15th birthday, Google announced the release of their new search algorithm, Hummingbird.

What is Hummingbird and What Does It Mean for You and Me?

As I understand it, Hummingbird  will provide faster and more precise results for every search based on the user’s previous queries as well as every word in the new query. For example...read the post here

5 Online Writing Tools

October 16, 2013
The article today is once again by Alicia Lawrence; she has been great with helping me keep the content informative and helpful.

Before I add her article however, I would like to give you all a quick update on where I'm at. For those of you who like my page on Facebook, you are in the know. As for those who are perhaps reading my blog for the first time, or those who do not have Facebook, here is a bit of a recap from the last month.

My last post was regarding an upcoming conference which I ha...

Upcoming Conference

September 19, 2013
On Friday I will be part of a three person panel talking about publishing; both self and traditional. I met with Eileen Schuh (author of Schrödinger's Cat, The Traz and Fatal Error) and she assured me all would go well. We spent over an hour discussing the topics at hand and getting to know one another over pie and ice-cream: it was a great afternoon.

I am not very good at speaking in front of a lot of people, so am nervous about how things will go. I have my notes almost ready to go, and am ...

Five Ways to Market Your Book Successfully

September 3, 2013
I have some great people filling in the blanks when I get busy with my books and pattern creation. Once again Alicia Lawrence has written a wonderful post, this time about marketing your book. Thank you Alicia for providing all of us with some very practical advice and ideas.

Five Ways to Market Your Book Successfully

When I was interning in the marketing department of a local press, I learned a lot about what authors should be doing to help move their books. Too many writers sit back and wait ...

How to Raise a Future Writer

August 23, 2013
With school starting in many parts of the country in the next week or two, it is time to start thinking about what you can do to encourage them to read and write more. For those who have students already back in school, it isn't too late to start. Let's not stifle a child's creativity by allowing them to play video games and on computers all of the time. They do need to learn how to write with a pen and paper, which will give them more opportunities for creative writing.

The following post is ...

How to Get Your Freelance Career off the Ground

August 14, 2013
"This post is by Katie Elizabeth - great tips and sound advice for the new freelance writer."

Everywhere you look, some website is advertising a new, easy way to make money online. The truth is, however, that unless you have a million-dollar idea — and the money and expertise to make it happen — you can't get rich by surfing the web.

What you can do, with a little hard work, is support yourself as a freelancer. In the past few years, I've managed to earn a healthy living as a full-time fre...

Summer is Busy

August 8, 2013
Summer is busy this year; but then again, isn't every summer?

For me it has been a little busier than usual, as I have been working on my novel, processing alpaca fiber and starting to pack (we are moving at the end of the month). July was Camp NaNoWriMo and although I didn't reach my goal of 50k, I did manage to write over 30k.

I do have two guest bloggers lined up for this week and next (both have written posts for me before), but I wanted to take this opportunity to let you all know I haven'...

Should Freelance Writers Specialize?

July 8, 2013

(This post is by Katie Elizabeth - her contact information may be found at the end of the post.)

A hot topic in the world of freelance writing is whether or not writers should specialize in certain topics. While some writers
believe that they have more options as general writers covering a variety of topics, it is usually far more profitable to specialize. If you're dabbling with the idea of whether to specialize or stay a general writer, this article will help you learn the benefits of specia...

July Already?

July 2, 2013
It has been a couple of busy weeks for me. I have been working on The Uncovered Dream, have had a few trips to the city and have been processing alpaca fiber. I also took a day and took part in The Biggest-Ever Facebook Like-Fest. This event was designed for authors to show off their Facebook pages and gain likes, in hopes of generating more sales in the future.

I gained over 100 Likes on each of my pages (Author page and Book page), and the number increases a bit almost every day now. I had a...
