Recently a friend/colleague started a Facebook Group to bring writers and publishers together, called The Write Exchange. The philosophy behind this group is to connect writers looking for work with publishers needing articles written.
The group is a private group and there are no legal safeguards in place, so everyone is advised to use the group at their own risk.
Members are encouraged to include their information on either the Writer’s Roll Call or Publisher’s Roll Call document, depending on which category applies. Information for writers should include name, writing experience, niches and contact information. Social networking profiles and blog/website information is strongly recommended as well. Publishers are encouraged to provide information regarding sites/blogs they own/manage; niches they require articles in and contact information. Plus, the number of words required and pay rate should be part of the job post. This step eliminates any assumptions and helps both parties avoid conflict. If you are not happy with the pay rate, leave it for someone who is.
The group has only been active for a short time, but several jobs have been posted and claimed. The rates are reasonable, and the articles are relatively simple. By claiming articles one is knowledgeable in reduces the time required to be spent on it, which in turn leads to a higher rate per hour. I am happy to be a part of the group and anticipate as publishers become aware of the group, they will post additional opportunities for writers. It gives both writers and publishers another avenue to benefit from Facebook, and there are no costs associated with being on either list.
Keep in mind each publisher will have different needs and pay rates, so please claim only those you can complete within the time frame.
Lisa Melia has worked hard to build the websites and blogs she has online, and is doing a great job so far with The Write Exchange. I have written several articles for her over the past year or so and have always been paid on time and given clear instructions as to what was expected of me. I will continue to support her and her efforts, and am very excited to be a part of it.
This has been a Shout Out for Lisa and her group. For those who are interested in becoming a part of The Write Exchange, simply send a request. When added, please read the rules and respect both the publishers and writers. We are professional writers, so let’s act that way.
